Game Dynamics

Our Cthulhu game is a live role play game derived in part for the H.G Lovecraft books and based around 1913.  Physics, technology, and science are seated within a reasonable approximation to the time; gas lamps light most of the streets (although electricity is slowly being tamed), very few people have phones, and even fewer have cars.

Investigators are limited to the common equipment of the day.  Guns were quite rare and only available to people with the right contacts or enough money, as would other specialised items, such as access to radio receivers or penicillin.

With that said, it is possible to find equipment that has been enhanced, either with occult power, demonic essence, or future science.  Such items will be rare, and should be approached with great care after all you don’t know what the side effects using it might be!

Guns

Ranged weapons of any type are considered accurate to 20 feet.  A skilled marksmen could accurately fire the weapon 100 feet, although light conditions will reduce this range.  Since we won’t be firing projectiles from the guns, (or water for that matter) we will have to rely on player opinion, honest and role-playing to judge if the target would have been hit.  It can be assumed that if a investigator actively attempts to avoid being hit (diving through a doorway or jumping behind cover) then the bullet missed, however, if you walk around a corner into someone waiting for you to put your head out then it can equally be assumed that you’ve been shot.

Occult or Demonic Powers

If someone points at you and says occult (or demonic) power xxx then assume you’ve been got.  Such attacks can not be dodge (without Luck), although it is possible to obtain some resistance to them during play.  xxx is a single word or short phrase which describes the attack.  The attacker may take you to one side to explain the effect in detail.
